1st Amateur League: O Captain! My Captain!

What does Haslach captain Stephan Gruber's performance against Albeins have in common with the redemptive kiss in a Hollywood romance? Well, not much actually – but neither of them can do without kitsch. After an injury break of several weeks, Gruber was back in the starting lineup against Albeins for the first time, pulled the strings in the midfield as stylishly as a hard-working grandma and then also became the big match winner. When Albeins took the lead 1-0, the captain was quickly seized by the desire to score. First he completed a combination as coolly as a ripped-off safe-cracker, only six minutes later he bolted the leather into the net after a cross with the humorlessness of Carlo Ancelotti's facial expression - and it was 2-1 for Haslach. The fact that Gruber was then replaced to special applause and Haslach saved the narrow lead over time gave the spectacle a certain happy ending atmosphere.
