1st Amateur League: One Call Away

If the first verse in Charlie Puth's “One Call Away” wasn't part of the song that has been listened to millions of times, it could well serve as a description of Fabian Call's football work on Sunday. In detail, the verse in question, which is also something like the essence of the entire song, means the following: I'm only one call away (I'm just a phone call away) / I'll be there to save the day (I'll be there to save your day) / Superman got nothing on me (Superman is nothing unlike me)/ I'm only one call away (I'm just a phone call away).

Long line – but then… Well, Lukas Perkmann's 2-1 goal for Nals, which the Etschtaler scored against Kaltern on Sunday just after the break, could be considered a call. Call's line seemed to be a bit long that day, which is why he was only able to answer the phone in the 78th minute, but he immediately emphasized why the Superman comparison is not very far-fetched and why he "saved the day" for SV Kaltern: First he drop-kicked a cross into the corner of the cross and then, 180 seconds later, he hit a free kick from 25 meters so tightly onto the lower edge of the crossbar and from there into the goal that every straight line in a Cartesian coordinate system would bow out of respect. Three minutes, two goals – and Kaltern left the field as a 3-2 winner.

Fabian Call is now so important in his Kalterer team's game that it wouldn't be surprising if one or two of his teammates had saved his number on speed dial 1 "for special emergencies": The striker, who is 21 years old, has scored in previous games one of the youngest players in the squad, scored six of the eight goals. And if things get tough again at some point, everyone in Kaltern knows: Fabian is only one call away.
