3:4 after 3:0: Düsseldorf is reeling in the promotion race

Regensburg (SID) Fortuna Düsseldorf is showing nerves in the fight for promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga. After a seemingly safe 3-0 lead, coach Friedhelm Funkel's team ultimately had to admit defeat 3:4 (3:2) at Jahn Regensburg and remained without a win for the third game in a row. The Rhinelanders remain in second place with 44 points after the 24th matchday, but their pursuers Holstein Kiel could reduce the gap to four points with a win at FC St. Pauli on Sunday. Regensburg is currently in fourth place, just one point behind Kiel. Düsseldorf took a clear lead early on thanks to Rouwen Hennings (3rd), Benito Raman (13th) and Takashi Usami (15th). Kaan Ayhan also hit the post for the guests in the 20th minute. Marco Grüttner (37') and Jonas Nietfeld (40') brought the guests back into the game before the break, before Marvin Knoll made Jahn celebrate again with a penalty kick (60') and Sargis Adamyan (65'). In front of 10.963, the game seemed to be decided after just a quarter of an hour. First, Hennings took advantage of the guests' first attack to score his eighth goal of the season, before Raman and Usami mercilessly exploited two defensive errors in the Jahn defense. After Ayhan's aluminum goal it looked like a one-sided encounter before Fortuna let things slide and Regensburg made things exciting again with a double strike from Grüttner and Nietfeld. After the break, Regensburg pushed Fortuna more and more into their own half. After Adam Bodzek fouled Nietfeld, Knoll scored from the spot before Adamyan rewarded Regensburg for his energetic performance.
