Arrival, training & Co: Everything you need to know about the DFB training camp in Eppan

From when until when will the DFB team be guests in Eppan? Exact dates have not yet been determined. So far there is only one time window during which the DFB will complete its training camp in this country. This window is from May 20th to June 6th. The exact arrival and departure dates will only be determined after the World Cup group draw on December 1st. The later Müller, Neuer & Co. start the World Cup in Russia, the later the training camp in South Tyrol will also begin.

Where will the DFB stay and train? The team is staying at the Hotel Weinegg in Girlan. The 5-star hotel meets all the strict DFB requirements and will also be renovated and expanded from October 2017. Training takes place in the Rungg sports zone, where head coach Jogi Löw has two grass and two artificial turf pitches as well as a state-of-the-art club building that will be completed in December.

How many people will the DFB entourage consist of? “With the team, supervisors and staff consisting of doctors, physiotherapists or media people, an estimated 70 to 74 people from the DFB will come to Eppan,” said the South Tyrolean OC head of the training camp, Manfred von Call.

Are public trainings planned? “That will only be defined by the coaching team at a later date,” said von Call. It could also be the case that a public training session is only announced a few days or hours in advance. In principle, the units are completed behind closed gates. There are currently no training games planned. “When the DFB team came to Rungg in 2010, there were two public training sessions,” explains von Call.

Were there any other competitors who wanted to hold the DFB training camp? “Yes, over a dozen other applicants wanted to welcome the German team. Places in Switzerland, Portugal or southern France were just a few candidates,” concludes von Call.
