Baumgartner: “Piazzi has a contract, we are working on the squad”

It was a championship with some ups and many downs that FC Südtirol played last year. Now they are trying to restart in Bolzano. With coach Giovanni Stroppa, who was hired at the end of the season and is now supposed to build a new team. Stroppa scales down his expectations: "On paper, we can expect a tough season, but in my first experience here with FC Südtirol four years ago, we had a similarly difficult starting position, but then sold ourselves quite well. Today it is difficult to talk about the future. But we have to keep our feet on the ground, then the field will show whether we have worked well or not. I like the project here and I also like the people who want to implement it in the club. Regarding players, can "We can't say much yet. We are planning according to our financial possibilities. But I believe that we should start modestly with the aim of staying in the league."

No player signings yet No names of new players were mentioned at the press conference. The Lega Pro regulations stipulate that the white-reds are allowed to sign a maximum of 24 players next year. According to the FCS, eight of them will be U21 players so that the association's contributions can be fully utilized. The FCS wants to put together the squad with the sporting director Luca Piazzi, who was not present today. "Luca Piazzi has another year of contract with us and we respect our contracts. I don't have anything more to say about it," said President Baumgartner at the press conference. Doesn't sound particularly convincing.

Some players, such as captain Hannes Kiem, have their contracts expiring these days. "We are currently working on putting together the new squad. That's why I won't name any names, we have to keep all options open," said Baumgartner.

So there are a lot of open construction sites, but it is certain when and where this year's training camp will take place. “The team starts training on July 15th,” explains managing director Dietmar Pfeifer. "On July 18th she's going back to Ratschings. This year to a new hotel, because we're no longer staying in the Schneeberg, but in the Alpenhof, which also belongs to the Kruselburger family, but is much closer to the training ground."
