At SSV Brixen, the coach is the star

One thing became clear during the team presentation: the stars in Brixen in the 2016/17 season are not players; the focus of the Brixen football world is entirely on the new, strong man on the sidelines. No wonder: Alfredo Sebastiani, a former professional coach, will now be in charge in the cathedral city, who not only led FC Südtirol to the third division in the 2009/10 season, but was also assistant coach at the English second division club Watford. Now he should set off on a high together with SSV Brixen.

“Brixen is a serious club that meets all my expectations. I sense in all my players an overwhelming desire to improve every day. That is also my main goal, namely to work intensively with these boys,” said the new trainer at the press conference. Martin Angerer, managing director of SSV Brixen Fußball, formulated his goals for the season in a similar way: “We don’t want to end up in third or fifth place. We want players to show presence, performance and the right attitude. We are not professionals, but we are not a hobby club either. We want to find the right mix.”

Promotion to Serie D is not (yet) an issue in Brixen

In any case, promotion to Serie D is not the declared goal of SSV Brixen, which has strengthened itself with Armin Blasbichler (Virtus Bozen), Luca Consalvo (Stegen) and Moritz Mair (Milland). “When you have a new coach, it is always difficult to say from the outset that we want to achieve this or that placement. It will be a testing year in which the team and the coach have to find each other,” said Angerer.

Captain Markus Fiechter explained how working with Alfredo Sebastiani goes in training. “The pace is enormous. We give every exercise full throttle, there are almost no breaks or phases during training where you just stand there. Every area – the defense, the midfield and the attack – are prepared specifically,” are the first impressions of Fiechter, who won the Europeada 2016 together with Manuel Prossliner a few weeks ago.

Finally, the club thanked its new co-main sponsor for their support. And here it is certainly not a disadvantage that assistant coach Christian Mlakar is also the Brixner branch manager of Athlete.
