Federal prosecutors close an investigation against Blatter

"I was officially informed on Tuesday that the Federal Prosecutor's Office decided, by order of May 22, to close the investigation into a television rights contract," Blatter told the French news agency AFP. When asked, FIFA stated that it had not yet received a corresponding decision. At the beginning of April, the French daily newspaper Le Monde and the Süddeutsche Zeitung reported that the Swiss federal prosecutor's office had stopped the investigation against the 84-year-old due to inconsistencies in the sale of TV rights to the Caribbean football union CFU. This was one of two criminal investigations launched against the Swiss in 2015 on suspicion of unfair business practices and abuse of trust. Blatter was at the head of the world football association from 1998 to 2016. Another investigation is underway against Blatter, which concerns the payment of the equivalent of 1,89 million euros to the then UEFA President Michel Platini. As soon as this case is also closed, "I will demand my rehabilitation from FIFA," said Blatter, who has been serving a six-year ban from all positions since the end of 2015: "My suspension by the FIFA Ethics Committee was ultimately based on the accusations of the Swiss judiciary."
