Carlos Tevez doesn't want to play anymore

The 38-year-old, beefy and always combative South American hasn't played for a year now; he was most recently under contract with Boca Juniors in the Argentine capital. Tevez, who belongs to the generation around superstar Lionel Messi, gave a very personal reason for his resignation.

“I'm quitting football because I lost my number one fan,” Tevez said. This refers to his stepfather, who died in February 2021 as a result of a corona infection. Career as a coach? “As a player, I gave everything, everything I had in my heart,” Tevez said on the station’s talk show “Animales Sueltos.” América TV . He has had offers from the USA and Argentina, but in the future he primarily wants to spend time with his own family. But the thoroughbred attacker can't get away from football; he wants to start as a coach and is working on a project with his brothers.

Tevez played over 70 international matches for Argentina and scored 13 goals. He was voted Footballer of the Year in his homeland twice, once in Brazil, where he also won the championship with Corinthians São Paulo, and once in Italy, where he even won the title twice with Juventus. Tevez's successes include five championships with Boca, two Premier League titles with Manchester United and one with Manchester City, as well as the Champions League victory with United in 2008.

He also became Olympic champion with Argentina in 2004. In his homeland, Tevez is called “El Apache” because of his origins in an area known as “Fortress Apache.”
