CONI General Fabbricini Italy's acting football boss

Rome (SID) As a result of its leadership crisis, the Italian football association FIGC has been under the supervision of the National Olympic Committee (CONI) since Thursday. The CONI appointed its general secretary Roberto Fabbricini as acting boss of the FIGC after the election of a successor to the resigned association president Carlo Tavecchio failed at the beginning of the week, around two and a half months after Italy's exit from the World Cup qualification. Fabbricini is supposed to find solutions to deal with the chaos with the support of former national player Alessandro Costacurta and the renowned lawyer Angelo Clarizia. There is no known deadline for ending the vacuum at the FIGC top. The FIGC crisis is not the only problem facing Italian football. At the upcoming World Cup finals in Russia, the four-time world champion will only be an onlooker for the first time since 1958, and after the expulsion of Gian Piero Ventura because of missing a ticket to Russia, there is still no new national coach. The presidential election at the FIGC turned into a farce last Monday. In four rounds of voting, none of the three candidates was able to win the necessary majority of votes. In a runoff election between the previously strongest candidates in the fourth and final round, almost 60 percent of the delegates blocked a decision by abstaining from voting, even though one candidate had received almost 40 percent of the remaining votes and his opponent had received less than two percent.
