Cristian Zenoni: “We could have achieved a lot next year”

The young White-Reds' just-completed season has been steadily improving and a curriculum like Cristian Zenoni's is not that easy to find. These are two reasons why one would actually believe that the former Atalanta, Juventus, Sampdoria and Bologna player and FC Südtirol will continue to work together. But in the next few days they will part ways. “My personal final balance is positive, be it based on my personal experience or the way the season went. We didn't start well, but we were able to improve a lot. The points scored also prove this. In the first half of the season there were 11, while in the second half of the season there were 19. “Surely we could have done everything better and this probably led to some people thinking that the season wasn't good enough,” said Zenoni.

Cristian Zenoni would have completed another season with the white-reds, also to make up for the championship he had just concluded with the “Berretti”. “In football you can’t expect anything, you have to accept what happens as it comes and look forward. I would certainly have liked to work in South Tyrol for another year, because then we would no longer have started from scratch and I could have continued with the work of the last few months with the boys. We could have had a good championship and that's why I'm sorry that the adventure ends here," said Zenoni. “I wouldn’t have rejected Virtus” The coaching bench remains the goal for the future of Cristian Zenoni, who wants to gain experience in the youth sector in order to then take over a fighting team. The dream of coaching a first team would seemingly have almost come true if only Virtus Bozen had stayed in Serie D. “You can’t always believe the rumors. From my side, I could have easily imagined working in Bolzano because the collaboration with FC Südtirol is very good and I would have had a large selection of players I knew. Unfortunately Virtus was relegated and therefore there was no contact.”

“Juve wants the champions”

In conversation with Zenoni we were also able to talk about Atalanta and Juventus, who are currently having a sensational season. Two teams that the 40-year-old from Bergamo knows well from his own experience. “I think Atalanta will continue to be strong and I don't think so many players will leave to play at other higher quality clubs. The reason is, on the one hand, that Atalanta is no longer a small team and, on the other hand, they can compete in the Europa League in front of such great fans. For Juventus, I can no longer find new adjectives to describe this season. Is it possible for them to win all three trophies? The squad is exactly the right one for this. There should be nothing to counteract them in the championship and in the Italian Cup I think they will make full use of their better qualities compared to Lazio. The Champions League is certainly the most difficult goal, but at the same time it is also what is most important to the club. It will be a tough game against Real.”
