FC Südtirol wins the prestigious Tyrolean derby

FCS coach William Viali had to make do in the Tyrolean derby without the injured trio Baldan, Fortunato and Fink, and the ailing Brugger was also rested. New signing Jeremie Broh and “returnee” Luca Bertoni were in the White-Red squad for the first time.

The FCS immediately took control of the game and had two good chances to score thanks to whirlwind Tulli. However, the attacker first failed at the goalpost and then at the guest goalkeeper Grünwald, so that the score initially remained 0-0. After the entertaining start, the game became increasingly flat, and there were no significant shots until about ten minutes before halftime. In the 36th minute, FC Südtirol took the lead: After a cross from Tait, previously substitute Spagnoli got ahead of goalkeeper Grünwald in the penalty area and scored to make it 1-0. Spagnoli could have increased the score to 2-0 a few moments later, but his aim - again with his head - was too imprecise. So we went into the locker room with the narrow but deserved lead.

Ciurria ensures the final point The FCS remained the dominant team in the second half. Despite the superiority, nothing changed in the score for the time being: first Spagnoli stumbled from a promising position (49th), then Ciurria's nerves failed in front of the guest keeper (55th). Kerschbaumer missed Innsbruck's only opportunity in the 60th minute when he narrowly missed the goal with a right-footed shot. Around a quarter of an hour before the end, Ciurria finally made the decision: the 21-year-old striker scored with a remarkable lob and thus made the white-red victory perfect. After the second goal of the afternoon, not much happened - FC Südtirol cleverly took the lead and were able to celebrate a well-deserved friendly victory after 90 minutes.

Now the focus of the Viali squad is once again fully on the championship: On January 21st, Cia and Co. will continue in the Lega Pro with the away game against FeralpiSalò.
