FC Südtirol can't find a solution against San Marino's defense

FCS coach Stefano Vecchi only had to do without the long-term injured Jonas Clementi today and allowed Carpi's winning team to play. Maritato was the striker, while new signing Testardi had to return to the bench.

The initial phase was clearly dominated by FC Südtirol, who tried to take control of the game with a lot of possession. This was successful over long stretches and so Thiam had his first big chance after ten minutes. However, his shot was blocked. Afterwards, however, the game became increasingly flat and the home team was no longer able to convert their field superiority into scoring opportunities.

It wasn't until the 58th minute that Thiam created a hint of a goal threat with a final attempt. Cappelletti headed the subsequent corner kick next to the goal. Just a minute later, San Marino goalkeeper Migani made a brilliant save to defuse a shot from Furlan. The guests from the small state were now huddled in their own half, but the FCS appeared to have no concept at times and did not manage to establish themselves permanently in front of the opponent's goal. The poor space conditions in the Drusus city did the rest. In the 76th minute, FC Südtirol experienced a moment of shock when the ball came to San Marino player Coda and he hit the ball against the crossbar. While the home team kept arguing with the referee, Doumbia suddenly sneaked away and scratched the FCS goal with his shot. It was only in the final phase that the White-Reds threw everything forward and missed the winning goal for the first time. The busy Thiam in particular put himself in the spotlight, but he too had no luck in scoring. So it ended up being zero.

"I can live with this point, also with the performance of my team. Because we tried to play the game and stood up to an extremely unpleasant opponent," was FCS coach Stefano Vecchi's first conclusion after the game.
