FC Südtirol is looking for reconciliation

Do you remember what you did on February 7th? Enjoyed a day of skiing? Fingers crossed for the South Tyrolean downhill skiers at the World Championships in Vail? Did you take a stroll through town? Don't you know exactly? That's not a big deal since that day was three months ago.

But those who can still remember February 7th clearly are the FC Südtirol players. Because it is the day on which the white and red kickers left the pitch as winners for the last time. After the 3-1 home win against Cremonese, the gap to the top of the table was six points and FC Südtirol was fully on course for the play-offs.

But that was a long time ago, 13 laps to be exact. 13 rounds in which you could only get four meager points. An almost eternal dry spell that cost coach Adolfo Sormani his job. Giovanni Stroppa took his place a few weeks ago. But Stroppa has not yet been able to breathe new life into the crisis-hit third division team.

But that should change on Sunday when the FCS is in action against eighth-placed Arezzo. “We worked well and trained hard all week. We’re going to Arezzo to take home the three points,” said striker Manuel Fiwickeler in a recent interview with SportNews. The signatory could not explain the long dry spell. “Maybe the opponents simply understood how we play. If there is something positive about this season, it is that we are saved,” concluded “Fisch”.

A “threesome” in Arezzo would be a conciliatory end to a season in which the FCS climbed to fifth place in the table – only to end up slipping dangerously close to the relegation places. The first leg ended with a strange 4-3 win for FC Südtirol. On January 6th, the match had to be postponed for two hours due to the frozen pitch. It was the game in which debutant Soma Novothny started his FCS adventure, which was unsuccessful until the end, with a brace.
