FC Südtirol has to admit defeat to Alessandria

Alessandria had their first good opportunity in the top game in the 17th minute when Marconi tried a powerful shot. But Melgrati was there.

Shortly afterwards, Hannes Fink was injured and the FCS had to continue playing with one less man for a short time. And the guests from Piedmont almost capitalized on this numerical superiority, but Melgrati was able to fend off Iunco's final attempt with his foot (19th). Fink was eventually substituted and Mazzitelli took his place.

Afterwards, Alessandria stayed on the trigger and finally took the lead. After a corner, Mezavilla rose highest, Zullo then deflected the ball so that Melgrati could no longer hold it (22').

After half an hour, the white and reds became dangerous for the first time. After Morero's defense was too short, Mazzitelli got a shot, but the ball went well over the visitors' goal.

Turbulent final phase in the first half

A little later, in the 39th minute, Branca fed the completely unmarked Novothny, but his header was too central and was unable to put Nordi in danger.

Only four minutes later, the FCS celebrated after all, namely when Marras reacted quickest after a commotion in Alessandria's penalty area and scored the equalizer. But the home team's joy only lasted two minutes. Before the break, Iunco gave the club from Piedmont the lead again after a defensive error.

A few highlights after the break

As spectacularly as the first half of the game ended, the second half started just as sluggishly. Opportunities were scarce on both sides. The game took place in midfield. The FCS tried hard, but Alessandria made the spaces narrow and allowed little to nothing.

In the final phase, Alessandria almost scored the third goal. After a corner from Vitofrancesco, Germinale was free to head the ball, but the ball hit the top of the crossbar.

Novothny has to take a shower early

Five minutes before the end, the hosts made the starting position even worse than it already was: Novothny had to take a shower early after the second warning. First he saw yellow because of a supposed swallow, the second because of protests.

Alessandria defended its narrow lead in the four minutes of stoppage time until the end and left the field as winner in the top game of the 26th round. For FC Südtirol, playoff qualification is now a long way off after their second defeat in a row.
