FC Südtirol starts the new year with a blatant victory

Two episodes in particular will be burned into the minds of the fans of the white and red footballers. On the one hand, the game on the 19th matchday of the Lega Pro against Arezzo started one hour and 45 minutes late because the grass in the Drusus Stadium was frozen and had to be thawed by the sunlight.

And the second headline came from newcomer Soma Novothny, who scored a brace in his first official appearance for FC Südtirol. Curious: So far this season, the Hungarian hasn't scored a single goal in 475 minutes of play for Mantua. In Bolzano he only needed 39 minutes for two of them. A total of seven goals were scored in this match.

But from the beginning. One of the toughest matches in the history of the FCS started with a cold shower. In the fourth minute, Mattia Montini gave FCS goalie Melgrati a dry shot and gave Arezzo the lead.

Novothny, Novothny, always Novothny

Just four minutes later, Novothny could have scored the equalizer with a header, but the ball went just wide. After a quarter of an hour things became dangerous again with Novothny, who went around Benassi but then failed to put the ball into Arezzo's keeper's box.

Then, in the 18th minute, FC Südtirol's new attacker was able to celebrate. The Hungarian striker was served exemplary by Branca and had no trouble pushing the ball into the goal.

From then on, the FCS controlled the action on the still somewhat slippery pitch and even took the lead before the break. A cross from Furlan nodded powerfully into Novothny's net (39').

Another four goals

After the break, Filehner and Campo made it 3-1 straight after the restart, but Filehner was first denied by Benassi, then by the crossbar and Campo couldn't get the ball into the empty net (47'). But the postponement is not over, because shortly afterwards Marco Martin made the preliminary decision. He stole the ball from an Arezzo player and scored with the “wrong” right foot (52nd).

But Arezzo came back again. Because in the 70th minute, substitute Bonvissuto reduced the score to 2:3. Until then, FC Südtirol had the action under control, but a brief defensive carelessness cost them another goal.

Fischlerler makes it 4:2, Arezzo hits back again

The FCS was by no means shocked by this, on the contrary. Just eight minutes after conceding the second goal, Manuel Fiwickeler made it 4-2. He skillfully put the ball into the far corner.

But this game was far from over. In the 83rd minute, Villagatti reduced the score again to 3:4 for the guests from Tuscany. The White-Reds still couldn't be sure of their prey, but in the end they were able to celebrate a narrow 4-3 win. It was the fifth win in the last seven games for Sormani's troops, who also drew once and only suffered one defeat.
