FC Südtirol is in the playoff final

Revenge is sweet. Even, or especially, if it is taken ten years later. In the 2003/2004 season, Giacchino Prisciandaro denied FC Südtirol promotion to the 1st Division Lega Pro. Now, ten years later, the White and Reds have knocked the Lombardy club out of the playoff semi-finals for promotion to Serie B.

FC Südtirol started the match with the same starting eleven as in the first leg at the Zini Stadium. The Drusus Stadium was almost sold out - also thanks to the 600 guests who came with them. Cremonese was missing the suspended Caracciolo and the injured Moi was unable to play.

A goal is not given for offside

The game, however, started slowly. Both teams took few risks and still had some good opportunities. Palermo tried from outside the penalty area, but Facchin was able to defuse the ball. In the seventh minute, Visconti missed a huge chance. After a cross, the attacker shot in the six-yard box, but didn't hit the ball properly and Facchin directed the ball over the crossbar.

In the 17th minute, Fink tried a long shot, but Bremec was on target. Four minutes later Pederzoli hit one of his dreaded free kicks, Fink directed the ball into the goal with his hip, but the goal was disallowed due to an alleged offside position.

On the other side, things became dangerous again after just under half an hour. However, Brighenti's long-range shot went past the FCS goal (29'). Then it was the FCS’s turn again. Martin with a cross ball that went past friend and foe and put Bremec in dire straits. That's it for these first 45 minutes.

Double strike decides the game in favor of the FCS

After the break, FC Südtirol made everything clear in the style of a top team. First Della Rocca's header failed from point-blank range before the white and reds hit back twice. Corazza sent Minesso into the lane, who tunneled past the rushing Bremec and scored to make it 1-0 (54'). Just 120 seconds later, Abbate brought down the rushing Corazza: penalty and red card for the defender. At least the penalty decision was questionable because the action that led to the foul started outside the penalty area. Long story short: Pederzoli grabbed the ball and safely converted the penalty.

Cremonese was now close to dissolution and practically nothing was seen of the guests. The substitution of Alessandro Campo, who played more than 140 games for the FCS, did not bring about the desired change. And yet it got exciting again. The FCS missed the early decision and conceded the next goal in the 86th minute through Della Rocca. Even after that, Minesso could have brought about the decision - but it remained exciting until the end of stoppage time. In the end, FC Südtirol was able to celebrate the home win and the associated entry into the playoff final. Series B is within reach.

Huge success for FC Südtirol! The Rastelli squad are in the playoff final after a 2-1 home win against Cremonese and are now just one step away from Serie B. The White-Reds took a 2-0 lead with a double strike at the start of the second half - but things got exciting again at the end.
