FC Südtirol is parting ways with “Berretti” coach Improta

After the teacher from Naples and the FCS juniors came in eighth place this year, the board and the trainer met to talk about the future of the team. It was mutually agreed that the expiring contract would no longer be extended.

Improta made his professional football debut at the age of 16. In total, he played 13 seasons in the professional leagues and won the Serie C2 four times with Campania-Ponticelli, Prato, Battipagliese and Spal. He also played for the amateurs for nine years and won Serie D twice with Battipagliese and Trento.

His coaching career, however, began in 2002 when he took over Bozen in the upper league and immediately won the championship and the regional Italian Cup. The following year he led the team in Serie D, but was released in January.

From 2004 he sat on the bench at Alense in the league. After a third and a fifth place in the first two seasons, he narrowly missed promotion in 2006-2007. After placing second in the championship, he lost the promotion play-off against the Novese team from Piedmont. The following year he finished the championship in eighth place, but won the regional Italian Cup again in the final against Stegen before taking over as coach "Berretti" team moved to FC Südtirol.

"We would like to thank you for five years of excellent work with our most important youth team. Improta trained many young players. Among the excellent sporting achievements, the two-time participation in the playoffs stands out. In addition to his competence as a coach, Maurizio was particularly important because of his correctness, helpfulness and Conscientiousness is popular. He also passed on these values to the many young people he had under his wing. We wish him good luck in his future career as a coach," said FC Südtirol in a press release on Tuesday.

The White-Reds are now starting their search for a successor for the important position of coach in the youth team from which the players will make the leap into the first team.

After five years at the helm of FC Südtirol's “Berretti” team, Maurizio Improta and the white-red team are going their separate ways at the start of the 2013/14 season.
