FC Südtirol meets Simon Laners Modena

The FC Südtirol squad includes two players, Stefano Fortunato and Alessandro Bassoli, who were under contract with Modena in the past. Both wore the jersey of the then Serie B club in the 2011/12 season. Fortunato made his debut in the match against Torino in May 2012, while Bassoli took the field 14 times.

Laner is fighting for a regular spot

A South Tyrolean also plays in the ranks of Modena: Simon Laner from Gargazon moved to the “Canarini” this year. Laner can look back on an impressive career in Serie A with Hellas Verona and Cagliari. He also played for parent club Verona, Carpi and Novara in Serie B. Last season, the 32-year-old played for the Swiss second division club Chiasso. However, it is still unclear whether Laner will play against the club from his homeland, as he was not recently part of Modena's starting eleven.

After 15 uninterrupted years in Serie A and Serie B, Modena suffered a bitter setback with relegation last season. The coach of one of the youngest teams in the entire Lega Pro (average age 23) is Simone Pavan. The 42-year-old was a successful defender in Serie A and played for Sampdoria, Atalanta, Vicenza and Livorno, among others. Modena has yet to win at home this season.

Second guest appearance in Modena

Modena and FC Südtirol have only played against each other once. On August 11, 2012, the White Reds met the then Serie B club in the Tim Cup. He won 2-0 in Modena. The goals were scored by Andelkovic and Ardemagni. Back then, the FCS team already included captain Fink, his “vice” Furlan and goalkeeper Marcone.
