FC Südtirol defends its fortress

Thank you Thiam! The FCS attacker saved the White-Reds from another defeat with a brace against Carpi and ensured that the eight-month streak without a home defeat for South Tyrol's only professional club continues.

The match began with an extremely cold shower for the hosts, as ArmaCarpi took the lead after just 19 seconds. But the reaction from the FCS in the Drusus Stadium was not long in coming. Campo's cross to Branca in the eighth minute was just intercepted by goalkeeper Sportiello. In the 16th minute, Fink fed the better-positioned Thiam, whose shot went just wide of the goal.

FC Südtirol continued to try hard and had more of the game, but were unable to create any significant chances. With one exception: Branca got the ball in the 39th minute, but he acted too hectically in the penalty area and missed a great chance.

Fink stayed in the dressing room during the break and Pasi came in for him. Coach Vecchi also changed his basic tactical concept, because from then on his team played in a 4-2-3-1 system instead of the 4-3-3 used under Giovanni Stroppa. Just four minutes after the break, substitute Pasi crossed into the middle of the penalty area for Martin, who was pushed down, but there was no penalty whistle. Just four minutes later, Pasi was again involved in the next dangerous action when he slammed the ball into the Bolzano sky a few meters in front of the goal.

Only 180 seconds later, the FCS supporters were able to celebrate. Uliano took advantage of the uncertainty in the opposing defense and served Thiamideal, who didn't have to be asked twice. The Senegalese scored a more than deserved 1-1. But the FCS didn't have enough - they wanted to win this match.

After Thiam had already scored the supposed winning goal in the 71st minute - the goal was disallowed due to a foul - the time had come ten minutes later. Iacoponi passed the ball flat to the Senegalese, who dribbled past two opposing defenders and sank the ball safely into the net.

In the 85th minute, the hosts had to survive a moment of shock when Concas passed to Arma, who hit the ball on the post. Carpi continued to apply a lot of pressure in the remaining minutes - in the end the White-Reds deservedly won 2-1.
