FC Südtirol wants to do better at home

Mister Vecchi knows why the FCS returned home from San Marino empty-handed: “I want a mentally stronger team that is present in a fighting spirit throughout the entire 90 minutes. So far we have never been able to reach our full potential because there were moments in every game when we weren't fully focused. These brief lapses of attention were punished coldly by the opponent. The defeat in San Marino was mainly due to our poor mental performance and therefore I expect a decisive reaction in this regard.”

As negative as the results on foreign greens are (without a win for almost seven months), the results on home soil are just as positive. In the “Drusus” stadium, FC Südtirol has won both home games so far this season and has been unbeaten for over 8 months. The last defeat at home was against Pergocrema in the 2011/12 season.

There are some indications that there will be changes in the FCS starting eleven on Sunday. In central defense, Alessandro Bassoli is likely to make his debut in the championship, with Stefano Vecchi at his side having to choose between Hannes Kiem and Daniel Cappelletti. What is certain is the confirmation of Richard Gabriel Marcone in the FC Südtirol goal, although Matteo Grandi has recovered from his shoulder injury. While everything in midfield will remain as before, Hannes Fink should return to the starting line-up and hunt for goals alongside Mame Baba Thiam and Alessandro Campo. The long-term injured Jonas Clementi and Riccardo Bocalon are not taking part, while Matteo Tagliani, Luca Bertoni and Matteo Timpone have fully recovered from their injuries. There is still a question mark behind the tactical style of play that Coach Vecchi will offer the spectators in the Drusus Stadium. Vecchi has previously alternated the “4-3-3” with the “4-2-3-1” system.

In the cup, the FCS had the upper hand against Cuneo Cuneo is trained by Ezio Rossi, an experienced coach. He has already managed teams in Serie A (Treviso) and Serie B (Triestina, Treviso, Grossetto and Gallipoli). Last season, thanks to the win in the playoff final against Virtus Entella, they were promoted to the third highest division. The team from Piedmont held together most of the squad for the 2011/2012 season. Probably the best-known actor in Cuneo's ranks is 36-year-old Enrico Fantini. After a few years in Serie A with Juventus and Cremonese (45 appearances, 1 goal), in Serie B with Chievo, Venezia, Fiorentina, Torino, Bologna and Modena (247 appearances, 32 goals) and in Serie C with Livorno, Cittadella, Alessandria and Cuneo (155 appearances, 28 goals) he returned to his hometown three years ago. Head coach Rossi will certainly have to do without the two suspended Luca Carretto and Marco Cristini in Bolzano. Alessandro Ruggeri and Gianluca Leonardi could also be missing.

The FCS and Cuneo already met in the Italian Cup this season. On August 5th, coach Vecchi's team won 5-4 on penalties in the first round of the Tim Cup after regular time ended 1-1

On the seventh matchday of the 1st Division, the FCS returns to their home “Drusus” stadium after the away defeat in San Marino. On Sunday, captain Kiem & Co. want to celebrate their third home win in a row against newly promoted Cuneo.
