FC Südtirol wants to “keep a cool head”

“We have to keep a cool head and not let external circumstances influence us,” said midfielder Hannes Fink, who was one of his team’s best in the 1-0 win in the first leg. With this statement he deliberately wants to ignore the betting scandal. “Perhaps the investigation will have an impact on Ravenna’s preparations, but this whole scandal doesn’t affect us. We are facing the most important game of the season and will step onto the pitch on Sunday with corresponding motivation. We want to fight for relegation on the field,” said the FCS homegrown player.

In Ravenna, as in Spezia and Alessandria, there have been a number of house searches in the past few days. Sporting director Giorgio Buffone was arrested on suspicion of match-fixing. Investigations are also underway against President Gianni Fabbri, his “deputy” Antonio Ciriello, coach Leonardo Rossi and goalkeeper coach Nicola Santoni. If Ravenna is forced to relegate, FC Südtirol is not yet certain of staying in the league. The two other play-out participants Pergocrema and Monza would initially have priority. However, the full extent of the betting scandal has not yet been revealed.

Traorè and Campo are out

Regardless, FC Südtirol can secure their place in the league with a win or a draw after the 1-0 win in the first leg. Ravenna, on the other hand, is doomed to win, but can secure relegation with a 1-0 win due to their better position in the table. FCS coach Maurizio doesn't believe in speculation and sets the course: "We want to return from Ravenna with relegation in our pockets." However, the Sicilian coach has to do without the suspended Mohamed Traorè and Alessandro Campo. The offensive player injured his Achilles tendon and will be out for around four months. After the final training session on Saturday in Bolzano, the FCS squad will head to Emilia Romagna to prepare as best as possible for the all-important game.
