The FCS is left behind in the fog of Cittadella

FCS coach Giovanni Stroppa relied on five South Tyroleans from the start in the cup match in Veneto and helped goalkeeper Lukas Demetz as well as Alex Demetz and Gabriel Tessaro make their debut in the professional squad. Gabriel Brugger and Lorenzo Melchiori were also in the starting line-up for the first time this season.

FC Südtirol's second guard had the scepter in their hands from the start. However, it wasn't until the 28th minute that Bandini caused danger in front of the opponent's goal for the first time with a long-range shot. Five minutes later, the FCS took the lead: Cittadella goalie Vaccarecci missed a cross from Bandini, allowing Tessaro to slot in from close range. This was the 19-year-old from Bolzano's first professional goal. However, the White-Reds' joy was short-lived, as just three minutes after the opening goal, Bizzotto equalized with a remarkable goal to make it 1-1. Shortly before the break, Demetz had to reach behind himself again when Coralli played around him and scored to make it 2-1.

The FCS is fighting back

However, the FCS seemed to have digested this double blow well and went on the attack after the restart. However, the top-class chances from Kirilov, Melchiori and substitute Tait were not converted into a goal. When Cittadella midfielder Lora was sent off in the 63rd minute, everything seemed to be going well for the FCS. But things turned out completely differently, because in the 68th minute the referee pointed to the spot after a duel in the FCS penalty area. Coralli converted the penalty. However, FC Südtirol's reaction didn't take long to arrive. In return, Amato directed a Bandini cross into his own goal. In the now dense fog, the Stroppa team threw everything forward. In the 84th minute she was finally rewarded: After a foul by a Cittadella defender, the FCS was awarded a penalty. Kirilov didn't need to be asked twice and turned dry. So both teams had to go into extra time.

Cittadella turns things up in extra time

There the ten actors from Cittadella suddenly made a big impression. First it was Coralli who made it 4:3 with his third goal, shortly afterwards the advanced Amato increased it to 5:3 with a shot on the turn. This was the decision in this eventful game, as FC Südtirol was no longer able to catch up again. The cup exit was thus sealed.

FC Südtirol said goodbye to the Lega Pro cup competition on Wednesday. In a spectacular game that was about to be canceled due to poor visibility, the White-Reds lost to league leaders Cittadella 3-5 after extra time.
