The FCS wants to get its first points of 2011 in Salerno

The FCS will start the 14.30th matchday (20rd matchday of the second half of the season) at 3 p.m. against Salernitana in the “Arechi” stadium. The White-Reds lost 0-2 to leaders Gubbio on the last matchday in their home stadium. For Salernitana, however, it is the first game of the new year 2011 because the last match against Lumezzane could not be played due to thick fog.

In the table, FCS is one point ahead of Salernitana, which has played one game less. In addition, the club from the south of Italy was deducted two points because there were irregularities in business conduct.

Coach Alfredo Sebastiani will have to do without the long-term injured Pietro Cascone, Thomas Albanese and Tonino Sorrentino in the game against Salernitana. Marco Martin is also missing from the left defense, who was taken out of action for one match day after the yellow-red card in the game against Gubbio. Denny Nazari will take Martin's place and Roberto Mirri will be appointed to the central defense for Nazari. There he will form the central defender duo with Hannes Kiem.

During the week, three players also came down with a flu-like infection. Alessandro Campo and Mattia Marchi have recovered enough to be able to play from the start on Sunday. Alfredo Romano, on the other hand - also weakened by the flu - will only be able to sit on the substitutes' bench. The team is filled with defender Michael Rottensteiner (born 1993) from the Berretti team.

Most likely, coach Sebastiani will start with a “4-2-3-1 system”, with Andrea Burato and Mariano Romano playing centrally in front of the defense. Alessandro Furlan, Omar El Kaddouri and Alessandro Campo will play more offensively in midfield. The only real striker will be Mattia Marchi.

As far as Salernitana is concerned, the southern Italians have been without a win since November 07th, 2010. The last “threesome” came with a 2-1 win against Verona. In the following six games, Salernitana was only able to get two points from as many home draws (against Ravenna and Reggiana). The four defeats, however, were away against Alessandria (1:3), against Como (1:2), Gubbio (1:3) and in front of the home crowd against Sorrento (1:4). The defeat against Sorrento was also the last game of 2010.

In the “Arechi” stadium in Salerno, the home team scored 17 out of a total of 23 points. The 17 points result from five wins and two draws. There were two defeats for Salernitana in their home stadium. The defense doesn't always prove to be solid either, because with 25 goals conceded, Salernitana has the third-worst score after Monza (32) and Paganese (29). But FC Südtirol also doesn't have impressive statistics in this area with 24 goals conceded.

The current ninth place in the table is by no means satisfactory to Salernitana, as they were extremely disappointed by their relegation from Serie B last year. The last few weeks have not been pleasant for those responsible for the team. First, the unpopular decision was made to send midfielder Merino on loan to Al-Nars Kuwait, then Polito, Pestrin (Frosinone and Varese are interested in him), Peccarisi and Monterivo were left out of the squad. Only Monterivo could hope to be called up for the game against FCS.

New to the team is Brazilian defender Jefferson Oliveira Alves, who came on loan from Serie A league side Udinese. The 20-year-old will have to sit on the reserve bench for the time being.
