DFL ruling: Taxpayers’ Association for “legally secure cost sharing”

Berlin (SID) After the ruling on the obligation of the German Football League (DFL) to cover police costs for high-risk games, the Taxpayers' Association (BdS) repeated its demand for a "legally secure cost sharing" for football. “The association renews its appeal to politicians, police, DFL and DFB to sit down at the table and discuss proposals,” said the BdS on its website. The federal government sees the second-instance ruling of the Bremen Higher Administrative Court (OVG) last Wednesday with the obligation of the DFL to pay an appropriate fee for police costs incurred in securing games of the Bundesliga club Werder Bremen as an "important step" in the debate: "In principle, they can "Organizers cannot be held responsible for the potential for violence of individual fan groups. On the other hand, it is also incomprehensible that taxpayers have to bear the high costs of security and order alone." The BdS advises - "regardless of the ongoing legal dispute between Bremen and the DFL" - to schedule talks between the parties concerned as soon as possible: "Clubs, fans and taxpayers want clarity in this permanently simmering conflict." With its ruling, the OVG Bremen overturned a first-instance judge's ruling in favor of the DFL. The DFL announced on Wednesday that it would file an approved appeal with the Federal Administrative Court in Leipzig.
