The people of Bruneck are back home

There are not many clubs in South Tyrol that can look back on such a long tradition as the club from the small Puster town. Bruneck had its beginnings in the 1930s, and the highlight came in the mid-80s when they contested a championship in what is now known as Serie D. Ex-professionals like Klaus and Thomas Bachlechner come from the Puster talent factory. And in the all-time national league table, Bruneck occupies a respectable 12th place in 10 seasons. In recent years, extreme roller coaster rides have been the order of the day for the kickers from the Pustertal. From 2006 to 2011, Bruneck achieved the feat of being relegated from the national league three times in a row. Twice it was enough to get promoted back immediately - the third time, in 2011, there was no return. Since then, everyday life in Bruneck has been shaped by being in the first amateur league. This is due not least to the city's internal competitor St. Georgen, which has recently become one of the most successful clubs in the region and has pushed its big brother somewhat to the sidelines on the Puster football stage.

Collective strength and two “bombs” in the storm The return to the highest league in the province is therefore very good for the people of Bruneck - and is also well deserved. Although the Pusterers have always been considered favorites in the past, it was only this year that they were able to really showcase their own potential. “The collective,” said President Andreas Oberleiter, “was convincing.” Even though they had two “grenades” up front in Philipp Rainer (17 goals) and Philipp Bachlechner (11 goals) who were essential for success. Just like midfield thinker and leader Stefan Oberheinricher and defensive lineman Alex Niederkofler, who also gave the team a quality boost with their class and experience. With a respectable gap of 12 points over second-placed Vahrn, Bruneck won the championship title in the B relay of the 1st amateur league. But the people of Bruneck don't want to change much in the future. A large part of the squad has been confirmed, only Stefan Gasser, Martin Knoll and Michael Hitthaler will no longer wear the Pusterer jersey in the future. For this purpose, two experienced players, Matthias Elzenbaumer from Latzfons Verdings and Hannes Steger from Natz, were brought to the city of 16.000 inhabitants. The squad is also strengthened by Markus Agstner (Gais) and Thomas Steurer.

Elevator season? please don't An elevator season with a destination minus the first floor, as has often been the case in the recent past, will of course no longer be the case from September 4th. Bruneck wants to re-establish itself in the provincial football upper house. That's the credo.
