The royals climb to the next throne

Real won the final of the European Super Cup on Wednesday evening after a confident performance 2-0. David Alaba (37th minute) and Karim Benzema (65th) scored the goals for the Champions League winners in front of around 31.000 spectators in the Olympic Stadium in Helsinki.

Eintracht delivered, cheered on by more than 10.000 of their own fans and weakened by the cancellation of Filip Kostic, who is willing to change a brave fight, but had to clearly admit defeat to the ripped off title hamsters. FC Bayern, who lifted the trophy in 2013 and 2020, remain the only German winners of the UEFA coronation game. With their fifth Supercup title, Real are catching up with the two record holders FC Barcelona and AC Milan.

Madrid's star coach Carlo Ancelotti initially had the same eleven play as in the triumph in the premier class against Liverpool FC. Against the world-class selection led by exceptional striker Benzema in their first competitive game of the new season, Eintracht repeatedly felt their way out of their own half. The eye-catching Daichi Kamada forced Real goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois to make a save in the 14th minute. Real's answer, however, was just as tough: After an attack via Federico Valverde and Benzema, Vinícius Júnior finished, Frankfurt's Tuta saved the already beaten Kevin Trapp in front of the line (17th).

Frankfurt's Ansgar Knauff tested Courtois again from a tight angle (24th), and in defense the Germans were able to limit the sphere of influence of Toni Kroos and former world footballer Luka Modric, at least temporarily. But Vinícius Júnior showed how quickly things could become dangerous with his shot, which Trapp was able to parry (37'). However, on the following corner, Alaba took advantage of the brief disarray in Frankfurt's defense to score. Then it became very difficult for Eintracht. After a cross from Kroos from the right side, Benzema finished, but the world footballer candidate's shot just missed the Frankfurt goal (41'). Benzema makes everything clear At the beginning of the second half, Eintracht tried to get closer to the Real goal with speed. Ancelotti's star ensemble showed the entire routine of several big games on the European stage. The danger of running into a counterattack was huge for the Bundesliga club. Trapp saved against Vinícius Júnior (55th). Glasner reacted and brought on Randal Kolo Muani for Jesper Lindström and Mario Götze for Sebastian Rode (59'). Shortly afterwards, Real's Casemiro hit the crossbar (61') before Benzema scored the second goal after an assist from Vinícius Júnior. It was the decision.
