The Oberliga begins with the cracker St. Georgen against Brixen

The league season in St. Georgen kicks off at 17 p.m. And one player in particular will be the focus of attention in this encounter. Martin Ritsch moved from Brixen to Pustertal in the summer. And on the first day of the match he will have to deal with his former teammates.

Ritsch is one of many high-profile newcomers to St. Georgen, which is one of the championship contenders for many league coaches and officials. Coach Morini was also pleased about the signings of Thomas Albanese, Thomas Piffrader and Luca Chiarion, while Patrick Pietersteiner returned to goal for the Puster club.

A lot has also happened with the competitor from the Isarco Valley, who entrusted Martin Wachtler with the coaching position. With Simon Mair, SSV Brixen was able to sign a very strong goalie. At the front, Cesare Scaratti should ensure the goals on the assembly line. In addition, Wachtler will incorporate some young talents into the team, which will primarily play to stay in the league. The Eisacktaler have to do without a few players at the start of the championship due to injuries: Lukas Obkircher had to have his appendix removed, Manuel Prossliner broke his metacarpal bone in a preparation tournament, Dennis Fanani got it in his ankle, Thomas Ritsch had to have surgery on his cruciate ligament and Dennis Nagler is currently recovering a fracture of the fibula that he sustained at the end of the first half of last year.

The first matchday in the top regional league has two more South Tyrolean derbies on Sunday (kick-off at 16 p.m.). SSV Ahrntal hosts ASV Tramin, South Tyrol's best league team last season. The promoted derby between St. Pauls and Virtus Don Bosco also takes place in Überetsch. It will be interesting to see to what extent coach Roberto Cortese has been able to form a unit at the Bolzano club from the many excellent individual players who were signed in the summer.

The match between Bozner FC and Levico Terme is also very interesting. The Trentino team, along with St. Georgen and Virtus Don Bosco, are among this year's title contenders. The Talferstadt team can send the most dangerous attack in the league onto the field with the striker duo Degasperi-Bertoldi - and give Levico a false start.

What should be certain on all pitches: players, coaches and supervisors are happy that the 2014/2015 season is finally starting after a month and a half of intensive preparation.
