Was it because the men in black literally saw red on Valentine's Day? Or did one or the other actor have to leave early in order to arrive on time at the obligatory candlelight dinner with their beloved on the day of love? All joking aside: the fact is that apart from Mori-Tramin and St. Georgen-Lavis there was at least one expulsion in every game. The events on the Talferwiesen were particularly difficult: against Bozner FC, the guests from Comano managed the feat of collecting twelve cards in one game - what initially looks like a brilliant solo effort during a cozy Sunday game is actually the sad climax of one Happy 18th match day. Bozner FC showed how to do it properly, not seeing a single (!) card for the entire 90 minutes.

Flood of cards also in Mezzolombardo The next blatant example was in the game between Rotaliana and Naturns, where the guests experienced an afternoon to forget. Not only because of the 2:4 defeat, but also because the Grünfelder team felt disadvantaged in some referee decisions. Stephan Lanpacher had to take a shower in the first half due to protests, Andreas Pirhofer followed him in the second half after a tough start and substitute goalkeeper Mattia Carrescia also saw a red card from the bench. One of the reasons for the heated tempers in Naturns may have been the three penalties that referee Claus awarded against the team fourth in the table. After all: Rotalianas Corrà also had to leave the field early with a minute to go. So in total four red cards. Things were also running high in the Girlaner Rungghof: Eppans Parise was no longer allowed to play after a repeated foul in midfield shortly before half-time, Pareiner and Richard Maurer (Ahrntal) also got carried away with unnecessary and illegal actions and were therefore taken away towards the end of the game subject to the maximum penalties. Things were comparatively mild in St. Martin, Storo and Mezzocorona, where there was “only” one red card each.

A less than glorious record A league match day with a bitter aftertaste, also because the sporting events on many football pitches increasingly faded into the background due to the numerous cards and the heated tempers associated with them. Football is the most beautiful thing in the world - and that's why it should be lived as a game, as fun, as entertainment. Of course, emotions are part of it and even give this sport a certain specialness - but of course the framework should not be exceeded.
