A special reunion: Matthias Bacher meets Naturns

Matthias Bacher, the figurehead and goal factory of Naturns in recent years, made his way to the Pustertal in the summer, where he storms for St. Georgen. “Of course, I'm a bit tense before the duel with my former club. “I’m really looking forward to seeing my former teammates again,” explains the striker.

Since the 2013/14 season, the striker, who trained at FC Südtirol, has played in the Naturns first team, playing 109 games and scoring a whopping 81 goals. “I particularly remember the 2014/15 season. We were promoted with Naturns from the regional league to the top league.” Bacher scored an impressive 27 goals at the time, and the following year it was 26 before he cracked the magical 21-goal mark for the third time in a row with 20 goals last season .

Over 100 kilometers journey In the summer he moved to St. Georgen, a top club with title ambitions. A somewhat unusual step, after all there is a distance of around 100 kilometers between Bacher's home and work place in Naturns and St. Georgen, which has to be covered four times a week. “I’ve now gotten used to the long journey,” says Bacher, who has a lot planned for the “Jergina” this year. “We want to be at the forefront and achieve a top three place.” And personally? “First and foremost, I want to help the team. I haven't actually set myself a target goal mark, but it would be nice to get closer to the 3 range again," said Bacher.

In any case, the striker has already gotten a taste for it: on Wednesday he scored twice in the 4-3 Italian Cup win over Lana, scoring his first two goals in an official competitive game for St. Georgen. The former teammates wearing the Naturns jersey should be warned.
