A bitter defeat for FC Südtirol in Lanciano

After the 3-2 home win against Barletta, FC Südtirol played away against Virtus Lanciano on Sunday. In the Guido Bondi Stadium, 1500 spectators didn't want to miss the match between the white-reds and the strong home club from Abruzzo. The guests from South Tyrol had to pretend to be Franchini, Calliari, Chinellato and Tagliani, while Chiavarini and Hannes Fink were again available to coach Giovanni Stroppa.

FC Südtirol had the first chance of the game. However, free-kick specialist Alessandro Campo was unable to put goalkeeper Ardità in trouble with his harmless shot. After that the match dragged on for a long time. Only after half an hour did the White-Reds become dangerous again when Giannetti Uliano played freely, but his shot went wide of the goal (32'). Six minutes later, Chiricò tested FCS goalie Iacobucci, but he didn't allow himself to be lured out of reserve.

Now the match got better and just 120 seconds later, Fischnelller and Ardità received applause from the other side. Santonocito sent Filehner on his way with a wonderful long pass, which Novinic skillfully dribbled out and the subsequent shot was defused by goalkeeper Lancianos with a brilliant save.

In the 44th minute, Campo's free kick followed, which FCS number "7" brought dangerously in front of Lanciano's goal. However, Iacoponi could no longer get to this ball and so he was easy prey for Ardità. On the other hand, the home team did better just a minute later.

After a throw-in, the ball came to Volpi in the penalty area, who didn't need to be asked twice from close range and pushed the ball into the net. This result remained the same until the half-time whistle.

After the break, the guests pushed hard for the equalizer. In the 49th minute, substitute Schenetti tried to outwit Ardità with a mix of cross/shot, but the ball didn't descend enough on its trajectory to find its way into the goal. Four minutes later came the next Campo free kick, which Lanciano's defenders couldn't get out of the danger zone. The ball came to Furlan, but Ardità was just able to block his shot. In this FCS tough phase of all times, the home team increased their lead to 2-0. Iacobucci was able to fend off a shot from Volpe with a brilliant effort, but the FC Südtirol number one was powerless when Chiricò's follow-up shot was taken.

After just over an hour, Chiricò could have made it 3-0 for Lanciano. His shot just missed the FCS goal (65'). Then there was another chance for the guests: the eye-catching Schenetti played to Filehner in the penalty area, but his shot was too central (69'). A little later, Lanciano counterattacked, but Donnarumma was in too much of a hurry and his shot was easy prey for Iacobucci. Eleven minutes before the end, the guests gained hope again when Albanese scored the goal to make it 1-2. But there was nothing more possible for the white-reds, who threw everything forward in the final phase. The referee also did not punish a supposed penalty-worthy foul on Manuel Fiwickeler (90th).
