Substitution refused: Ajax banishes Younes to the second team

The 24-year-old will train with the second team in the next two weeks, the Dutch record champions announced on Monday. Younes refused to be substituted shortly before the end of Sunday's home game against SC Heerenveen (4-1) because he considered it "unnecessary".

"Amin Younes ignored the instructions of coach Erik ten Hag. Ten Hag met with Younes on Monday morning and informed him that he would be training with the second team for the next two weeks," Ajax said on Monday. After ten Hag's request, Younes simply remained on the substitutes' bench.

Ten Hag had already expressed his anger about Younes' behavior on Sunday. "I wanted to reward Amin for his last appearance and the training work, but shortly before the final whistle he felt it was no longer absolutely necessary," he confirmed to Fox Sports: "Of course I'm the boss and I also wanted him to come in. I'll talk to him about it. I think he has to come in if I want that. But he found it unnecessary."

At the end of January, Younes made the headlines once when he was about to move to the top Italian club SSC Napoli. Since then, Younes has only made four short appearances in seven games in Amsterdam, but most recently contributed an assist in the 2-3 win against Vitesse Arnhem.

Younes is now set to move to Naples on a free transfer in the summer. The five-time German national player refuses the transfer and is threatened with a lawsuit. Naples says they have a contract signed by Younes. “Should Younes take other paths, he will have to take responsibility on a financial level,” Naples lawyer Mattia Grassani told Gazzetta dello Sport. Younes' contract in Amsterdam ends at the end of the season. According to media reports, the Düsseldorf native is flirting with a move to German record champions Bayern Munich.
