Empoli throws FC Südtirol out of the Italian Cup

Tavano had the first chance of the game, whose diagonal shot hit the post in the seventh minute. Ten minutes later, FCS defender Iacopni fell in the Empoli penalty area after a clash with Hyasaj, but the referee didn't blow his whistle.

From the 30th minute, Empoli increased the pressure. First Tonelli tried a header, which Micai was able to defuse (30th). In the 38th minute, Maccarone's shot went just a few centimeters over the crossbar and Verdi tried it again just 60 seconds later, but his shot was easy prey for FCS goalie Micai. Empoli's opening goal was in the air and in the first minute of stoppage time Maccarone scored with a low diagonal shot.

Empoli's joy only lasted until the 47th minute of the game. Immediately after the break, Campo equalized for the third division team. Substitute Corazza played to Bastone, who continued to Campo and FC Südtirol's number seven gave Bassi no chance with a powerful shot from the edge of the penalty area.

The game remained entertaining after that, but Maccarone missed a double chance for Empoli. At the other end, Ekuban missed a good opportunity when he appeared alone in front of Bassi. After a little more than an hour, Campo tried a long shot, but Bassi was on target (65').

The second goal came on the other side. A back pass from Cappelletti failed and the ball ended up in the net behind goalkeeper Micai (66'). 120 seconds later, Ekuban tried from the edge of the penalty area, but Bassi had no problems with his shot. In the 73rd minute, a Vassallo shot deflected by Ekuban landed just wide of the Empoli goal.

When Mchedlidze completed an exemplary counterattack in the 79th minute and scored to make it 3-1 for the home team, the cup game was decided. After that, nothing worked at FCS anymore. Verdi scored from the penalty spot in the 83rd minute to make it 4-1 (Bassoli's foul on the goalscorer), Mchedlidze even made it 89-5 in the 1th - but that was just a cosmetic result.
