FC Südtirol: Nothing to gain away from home again

FC Südtirol is still waiting for its first away win this season. Meanwhile, Kiem and Co. have been away from home without winning a full point since March 18th. The away curse also continued on the sixth matchday, as the FCS had to admit defeat 1-2 in San Marino. The guests were only able to build on their previous performances over short stretches.

Today's game at the Olympic Stadium in Serravalle was against newly promoted San Marino, who suffered four defeats in five games. During the week, coach Mario Petrone was fired and replaced by Leonardo Acori. This seemed to have given the team a boost, as the home team showed a courageous performance from the start. After 15 minutes, Casolla caused danger for the first time with a free kick. Five minutes later, Campo tested the San Marino goalkeeper with a long-range shot. In the 30th minute, the team from the small state took the lead thanks to the busy Casolla. After Casolla and Coda missed two more top-class chances, San Marino's lead was well deserved. Campo had FC Südtirol's first good opportunity in the 38th minute, but he was again denied by the opposing Golie. Afterwards, the focus was once again on Marcone, who was now under constant fire from the San Marino players.

The FCS goalkeeper was dependent on the help of Kiem in the 57th minute, who scratched the ball off the line at the very last second. Just a few minutes later, San Marino took advantage of the clear increase in chances to make it 2-0: Mella powered through the FCS defense and gave Marcone the disadvantage for the second time. Anyone who expected a reaction from the Vecchi team was disappointed, because the guests never really managed to get a hold of the opponent's goal. Instead, San Marino repeatedly appeared dangerous in front of the goal. It wasn't until the 92nd minute that substitute Piergiuseppe Maritato scored. He headed a Martin cross into the net to make it 2-1. However, it was too late for a successful comeback because shortly after the FCS goal, the referee blew the whistle for the game.
