FC Südtirol: This time the lightning start should be successful

On the first match day, FC Südtirol has so far not managed more than three draws and one defeat. You definitely want to avoid a stuttering start on Bolzano's Cadorna Street this season. The memories of the past season are too fresh, when they started the championship with great ambitions to send coach Maurizio D'Anna out the door after five match days and only five points won. The FCS management team seems to have learned the lessons from this and is stacking deep before the season opener against Como. There is no talk of Series B this year.

Rastelli has to improvise

Nevertheless, FC Südtirol wants to continue to compete in the top third of the table under D'Anna's successor Claudio Rastelli. A win in Como would be the best start. However, the signs are not the best - at least when it comes to staffing levels. This is extremely thin before the start of the season: Simone Branca and captain Hannes Kiem are suspended after the playoff final against Pro Vercelli, while Alessandro Furlan and Luca Bertoni are out for the long term. This means that Rastelli is missing four top performers. The Roman on the FCS bench will send four South Tyroleans onto the field from the start: Fabian Tait, Michael Cia, Manuel Filehner and Hannes Fink. The latest newcomer, Davide Petermann, will initially sit on the substitutes' bench.

Como wants revenge

Only three and a half months have passed since the last meeting between FC Südtirol and Calcio Como. In mid-May, the two league rivals faced each other in the playoff quarter-finals. At that time, the South Tyroleans held their own in the penalty shootout and moved into the next round. In the summer months, not only the FCS underwent a major roster change, but also Como. Giuseppe Le Noci is one of the few players who stayed. Hopes for the upcoming home game rest on the former FC Südtirol striker, who scored the consolation goal to make it 1:4 in the cup defeat against Sampdoria on Sunday, and his new strike partner, the talented Simone Andrea Ganz.

The match between the White-Reds and the Lombards marks the end of the first matchday in Circle A of the Lega Pro. As a reminder, this season the individual championship rounds will be split up over the entire weekend. Games are played on Friday, Saturday and Sunday mornings and afternoons.

On Sunday (18 p.m.) the FCS starts its fifth season in Italy's third highest football league with a guest appearance in Como. So far, the White-Reds have always been denied an opening victory. That should change now.
