FC Südtirol: A debut brings three points

Fermana coach Flavio Destro suspected the first surprise before kick-off. FC Südtirol had expected the hosts to be in 4-4-2, but that wasn't the case. Because the FCS played with two strikers, Fermana played in a 3-4-3 formation - and defensively with rigorous man-marking. The two half-backs Bachir Manè and Mattia Gennari were based on FCS strikers Emmanuel Gyasi and Rocco Costantino. A move that worked.

Deep pitch, weak game

Otherwise it was the expected game. The pitch in Fermo didn't allow for magical football, the result was a lot of crosses and high balls. Opportunities were more than just in short supply. The best FCS opportunities in the first half were two long-range shots from Jeremy Broh and Luca Berardocco. On the other hand, Arturo Lupoli, who was sent away from Bolzano in the summer, was in control of the lead. After a misunderstanding between Filippo Sgarbi and keeper Daniel Offredi, Lupoli only hit the side netting from a tight angle (14th).

Candellone celebrates his debut, Gyasi forces the FCS lead

After the break, the FCS came out of the locker room better and when new signing Leonardo Candellone came in for Costantino, the pressure on the Fermana defense increased even more. The striker was also involved in the lead. Last but not least, he was the goalscorer, even if it didn't look like it at first. Gyasi gave a cross pass from the right to the middle, where Candellone deflected the ball into the goal in a confusing situation (63').

Little, if anything, happened in the final phase. Lupoli claimed a penalty, but without really having a reason for it. Things got most dangerous with a minute left when Tait hit the ball out of the danger zone after a commotion in the FCS penalty area.

In the end, FC Südtirol had a happier ending. In a game that didn't deserve a winner, the White-Reds took all three points. The reasons: A small period of pressure after the break and a debut.
