FC Südtirol: A good half is not enough to win

Coach Stefano Vecchi had to change his line-up slightly before the start of the game because he had to replace the suspended Bertoni and the injured Campo and Clementi. The tried and tested regular line-up played in defense, while Uliano was allowed to act in defensive midfield and the trio Fink, Maritato and Thiam were used in attack.

FC Südtirol set a high pace from the start and had their first chance through Thiam after just two minutes. Five minutes later, the advanced Cappelletti tried, but his long-range shot didn't put the opposing goalkeeper in trouble. The flow of the FCS game was very clean, functional, especially in the initial phase, and particularly dangerous in the last 30 meters. As if out of nowhere, Albinoleffe struck coldly in the 31st minute: After a mistake by Uliano, Pesenti grabbed the ball, penetrated the penalty area and beat Marcone with a well-placed diagonal shot. Now there was real fire in the game, because just a short time later the guests missed the second goal. Pacilli's shot hit the crossbar. In the 39th minute, Albinoleffe captain Regonesi was shown a yellow-red card after a rude foul. Again, only three minutes passed before Bassoli was there after a Cappelletti header was blocked and scored to make it 1-1.

As convincing as FC Südtirol played in the first half, they had even greater difficulties in the second half. And this despite the fact that the White-Reds were able to operate with one more man. Albinoleffe isolated himself in his own half and prevented any offensive attempts from the hosts. Thiam had one of the few FCS chances, his header hitting the crossbar in the 62nd minute. Afterwards, the spectators in the Drusus Stadium waited in vain for further highlights. The game went along without any excitement until the final whistle.
