FC Südtirol fulfills its duty - fifth place safely

FCS coach Claudio Rastelli again had to make do without the long-term injured Dell'Agnello and Tagliani on Sunday afternoon, but Pederzoli returned to the starting lineup. In attack he used the Minesso-Turchetta-Corazza trio.

FC Südtirol made it clear in the opening minutes who was in charge. After just four minutes, Fink demanded everything from the opposing goalie with a header. Only a short time later, however, he had to reach behind himself for the first time: Turchetta won the ball, let several opponents get out and finally sank the ball into the net. At this point only eleven minutes had been played. However, the FCS remained in control. First it was Pederzoli who tested goalkeeper Vivan again, then Minesso gave him no chance to defend for the second time. The striker heaved a Branca cross under the crossbar with his head.

Cicarevic makes it exciting again

At the beginning of the second half, coach Rastelli's players were able to finally seal the deal. Turchetta passed on Hannes Fink, who immediately shot from the edge of the penalty area, but visiting goalkeeper Vivan was able to save. Turchetta then tried to play brilliantly to Corazza, but the FCS striker shot well over the goal. San Marino, on the other hand, took advantage of a mistake by Hannes Kiem in the 56th minute: Cicarevic got hold of the ball and beat Facchin to make it 1-2. South Tyrol was unimpressed by the goal, defended cleverly and put San Marino under pressure with lightning-fast counterattacks. After a nice combination with Corazza, Turchetta only hit the top of the crossbar.

Things got exciting again in the final minutes as San Marino increased the pressure, but the FCS stood securely in defense. Corazza missed the last good opportunity and so the White-Reds won 2-1, which guaranteed the FCS a place among the top five teams in the league and thus home advantage in the play-off quarter-finals.
