FC Südtirol gets a point at AlbinoLeffe

FC Südtirol played the opening game of its third season in the 1st Division of the Lega Pro away in Bergamo. In the “Atleti Azzurri d'Italia” stadium, the white-reds met Serie B relegated Albinoleffe. The former team of Simon Laner and Michael Cia was relegated to the Lega Pro after nine years in the Italian second division.

FC Südtirol, which has the youngest team in the entire Lega Pro with an average age of 21.5 years, was missing midfielder Luca Bertoni and striker Matteo Timpone today. Both teams approached the game very cautiously. In the 8th minute, a serious foul by Pesenti on Martin caused a stir, Pesenti was shown a yellow card, Martin had to leave the field for five minutes, but then returned. In the 10th minute, Corradi missed the FCS goal with a free kick. A quarter of an hour later, Maietti was able to get through on the right wing and free Pesenti. The center forward's shot was blocked by Grandi. Shortly before the half-time whistle, AlbinoLeffe became dangerous again: Grandi punched a shot from Pesenti right at the feet of Belotti, who, however, shot well over the goal with an overhead kick. So after 40 minutes it remained a goalless draw.

Immediately after the restart, AlbinoLeffe took the lead. Belotti fed Pesenti, who played Kiem and beat Grandi from the edge of the penalty area to make it 1-0. The goalscorer, who had already been cautioned, took off his jersey while celebrating the goal and was shown yellow/red. FC Südtirol was able to play the entire second half with one more man. And the white-reds immediately increased the pressure. In the 59th minute, Branco crossed to Thiam, who headed just over the goal. In the 80th minute, Branca tried again, but his shot also went over the goal. The equalizer finally came in the 86th minute: Campo cornered and Mame Baba Thiam headed in to make it 1-1. Bocalon could have scored the winning goal in stoppage time, but his header went just out of bounds.
