FC Südtirol beats itself: 1:2 against Salernitana

Before the game, FCS was one point ahead of Salernitana, which had played one less game. In addition, the club from southern Italy was deducted two points because there were irregularities in the club's management.

Coach Alfredo Sebastiani had to do without long-term injured Pietro Cascone, Thomas Albanese and Tonino Sorrentino in Salerno. Marco Martin was also missing on the left side of the defense, having been taken out of action for one match day by the arbitration tribunal after the yellow-red card in the game against Gubbio. Instead of captain Hans Rudi Brugger, Mohamed Lamine Traorè surprisingly played. Manuel Fischnitzer acted as the sole striker.

FC Südtirol got off to a perfect start: after six minutes, Kiem headed in a Campo corner to take the lead. In the 19th minute, the home team showed their first reaction with Carrus hitting the crossbar. Hannes Kiem was able to scrape the margin off the line. Despite the opening goal, the FCS never really found its way into the game. A few times there was a fire in the penalty area and only by joining forces could anything worse happen.

The game continued until the half-time whistle. During the half-time break, the angry, rioting fans of the former Serie A club in front of the stadium caused more of a stir than the 22 players on the pitch before.

After the restart, however, the tide turned and Salernitana literally played the white and red against the wall. After just three minutes, the home team equalized with a header from Carcuro. As a result, the team from Salerno cruised dangerously in front of the FCS goal several times and repeatedly tested goalkeeper Zomer with long-range shots. In the 78th minute, Mirri was only able to stop Salernitana's counterattack with a foul and was shown a red card. Carrus hit the crossbar with the logical penalty. In the 86th minute, Alfredo Romano also received a red card when he insulted the linesman for a throw-in. As a result, the nine FCS players were unable to defend themselves against the defeat: a cross from Montella bounced unhappily onto the Brugger substitute's shin and from there into his own goal. The goal to make it 2-1 for Salernitana was also the end of a spectacular game.
