FC Südtirol tests against Wacker Innsbruck

North versus South, Austrian versus Italian league. The Tyrolean duel between Wacker Innsbruck and FC Südtirol is always something special. That's why the two football clubs will meet again this year for test match purposes. The “Eisenstecken Cup” will be played on Saturday afternoon in the Drususstadionum in Bozen.

Innsbruck with a strong season

The successor club Wacker Innsbruck has not yet been able to match the glory days of FC Tirol, which won the Austrian championship three times in a row between 2000 and 2002. At the moment the North Tyroleans are stuck in the second league. However, captain Christoph Freitag & Co. are fighting for promotion together with Ried, Wiener Neustadt and Hartberg.

Innsbruck relies on a team that has many local players. But the star of the team is a Slovenian. Zlatko Dedic, a 48-time national player, has already scored eight goals this season. Dedic also has a Serie A history in Italy. He played for Parma, Empoli and Frosinone, among others.

Last duel a year ago

The last time that FC Südtirol and Wacker Innsbruck met was last year. Under the leadership of former coach William Viali, FC Südtirol won 2-0. The goals were scored by Alberto Spagnoli and Patrick Ciurria. Curious: The FCS adventure ended soon afterwards for both Viali and goalscorer Ciurria. Viali was released and the winger moved to Pordenone in the January transfer window.
