Ronaldo's flight show: CR7 Air Jordan takes off

The Portuguese world star scored an incredible 2-1 winning goal (45th) for Juventus Turin at Sampdoria Genoa 2,56 m into the evening sky - and even made the opponents rave about his extraordinary football skills.

“He stood in the air for an hour and a half,” said Sampdoria coach Claudio Ranieri: “Ronaldo did something that you only see in the NBA. We lost, but we were sunk by two masterpieces.” He also referred to Paulo Dybala’s 1-0 win (19th). Ronaldo himself compared himself to basketball icon Michael Jordan on Twitter and Instagram. “CR7 Air Jordan!!” he wrote with an airplane emoji alongside several photos showing him scoring.

The Corriere dello Sport was reminded of the hit “Nel blu dipinto di blu” (Blue Painted in Blue) and headlined with its famous line “Volare, oh oh” (Flying). The goal “must be shown in all football academies,” it said. Tuttosport commented: “Juve flies with the Martian Ronaldo”. And the Journal of Sport wrote about “Alien Ronaldo” that he was “constantly looking for new land to conquer. In Genoa he put on a show like an alien.”

The goal was worth its weight in gold for Juventus: with their 13th win of the season, the Italian record champions at least temporarily overtook leaders Inter. The Nerazzurri, who host FC Genoa on Saturday (18.00 p.m.), are now three points behind but have the better goal difference.
