For professionals and amateurs: Football association plans rescue fund

The association made a corresponding suggestion to the Italian government. The fund is to be financed partly by the football association and partly with a quota (one percent) on all football bets. There was a similar suggestion from the NBA recently. Calculated over the past year, 104 million from sports betting would flow into the fund. This year the amount would probably be slightly smaller. “Cannot ask for additional funds from the government” FIGC boss Gabriele Gravina Association President Gabriele Gravina explains the project as follows: “In addition to the money from sports betting, we want to use all reserves in the association’s treasury. We cannot ask the government for additional funds. There are bigger problems to solve.” Amateur football is sounding the alarm In addition to professional clubs, amateur clubs should also be supported. According to the president of the Italian amateur football association LND, Cosimo Sibillia, these funds are urgently needed: “As a result of the crisis, 30% of our clubs could disappear from the football map.” Nothing has yet been known about a possible distribution key. Meanwhile, it remains completely unclear when the leagues will be able to resume play. A cancellation of the season is not completely ruled out either. The problem of ending the season must be addressed “taking sporting results and contracts into account,” said Damiano Tommasi, head of the AIC footballers’ union.
