Hannes Kiem: “Nobody contacted me”

Coach Giovanni Stroppa and her teammates seemed without advice after the listless performance in the 0-2 loss against Giana Erminio. Are there really no explanations for this worrying downward trend?

Believe me, we players really give our all in training. Unfortunately, the situation on match day is completely different. We appear completely frightened and hardly react when we concede goals. Every further game without a win made the situation even worse. Morale and self-confidence are gone. We can only be lucky that we were able to stay in the league despite these desolate performances. That could have been eye-catching.

Has the team lost cohesion?

Every single one of them is insecure and doubts themselves and their teammates. Of course, this also has an impact on the unity on the pitch. Last year, team strength was our big trump card. Back then, we went into the games with enormous confidence and let our opponents feel that from the start. Success brings people together in a completely different way than failure does. But the fact is that we get along really well and there are no “black sheep” in the team. I can guarantee that.

As captain, how do you perceive the atmosphere in the club?

The climate is tense, no question about it. However, the club management now has the necessary experience to deal with this situation. I think a conclusion will be drawn from this season and incorporated into future planning. Certainly some players will leave the club and others will join, but a complete upheaval like the one that has taken place in recent years also entails enormous risks. A team can't cope with that so easily. This should also be clear to the decision-makers in the club.

To what extent do you play a role in FC Südtirol's future plans?

Unfortunately I cannot answer this question. I'm a FC Südtirol player until June 30th, that's how long my contract runs. Nobody has contacted me about this yet. Those responsible still seem to be waiting when it comes to contract extensions, which is understandable given the sporting situation. I am always open to discussions, be it regarding the contract term or the player's salary. The next step must now come from the club.

On May 13th, FC Südtirol will play a test match against their hometown club Kastelbell/Tschars. A rogue who suspects a farewell game behind it?

“My God, this question had to come. (laughs) As far as I know, the friendly game comes from an old agreement between the clubs. The idea of a farewell game is certainly not behind it. Rather, it is a special match for me because I am facing my two brothers Harry and Ewald (coach and captain respectively at Kastelbell/Tschars, editor's note). I'm looking forward to that. As far as FC Südtirol is concerned, we’ll see what the future brings.”
