Soaring under Korkut: VfB with third win in a row

Stuttgart (SID) VfB Stuttgart's soaring under coach Tayfun Korkut continues. The Swabians also won against Eintracht Frankfurt 1-0 (1-0). After the third win in a row and ten points from four games since Korkut took over - and with only four goals in total - VfB has gained breathing room in the relegation battle with minimalist football. Erik Thommy gave VfB a 13-1 lead in the 0th minute with his first goal in the VfB uniform. It was a setback for the disappointing Eintracht in the exciting battle for an international place. Most recently, Niko Kovac's team won five of six competitive games and moved up to third place in the Bundesliga. Korkut gave his trust to the team that had recently won 1-0 in Augsburg. Kovac replaced the suspended Kevin-Prince Boateng with Mijat Gacinovic. He also had to do without the ailing Omar Mascarell. Eintracht had their first chance to score through Danny da Costa. The defender's shot even hit the crossbar of the VfB goal (9th). Stuttgart, on the other hand, initially had some problems going forward. When they took the early lead, they benefited from a mistake by Eintracht captain David Abraham, who was too careless in a duel with Daniel Ginczek. In addition, goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky didn't come out of his goal with enough determination. Marco Russ was initially able to fend off Ginczek's shot from a tight angle, but Thommy then pushed the ball over the line from a few centimeters. It was VfB's first goal under Korkut in which Mario Gomez (two goals, one assist) was not directly involved. As a result, Frankfurt owed a lot. The Hessians, for whom Boateng's absence was clearly noticeable, made too many mistakes in the build-up, so the well-positioned VfB around the strong Benjamin Pavard hardly came into trouble. Ron-Robert Zieler only had to intervene once against Ante Rebic (32nd). Stuttgart was waiting for a counterattack early on, but didn't finish it well until the break. That changed just a few seconds after the change. Gomez played Ginczek free, but he wasn't determined enough. The next opportunity arose for the VfB striker at the following corner, but his header was too misplaced. Despite the inclusion of Fabian, Eintracht remained largely harmless to the defensive Russ in an often disjointed game. Only in the final phase did the Hessians increase the pressure.
