Hugo Pomella: “Tramin can play for promotion”

Numbers are often a good indicator of performance. And Tramin's numbers in the second half of the season speak for themselves. Thanks to consistent performances, the Unterlanders have collected 13 points in 23 games so far - exactly as many as at the end of the first half of the season. With a total of 46 points, Greif & Co. can still compete for the championship title – and even make it into Serie D. When it comes to the game calendar, Tramin is also playing its best, as they play away against relegated Plose on Sunday and at home against Salurn the following week. Tramin's coach Hugo Pomella knows this situation very well, as he already had one foot in Serie D with his former club St. Pauls.

SportNews: Hugo Po mella, there are still 180 minutes left until the end of the championship. Tramin can still play for promotion. What do you feel?

Hugo Pomella: I think back to St. Pauls, where I was also the coach and the starting point was similar. We had the strongest team at the time and could have been promoted to Serie D. But the club didn't want to take this step and the season ended in disappointment. That was a shame at the time, but I also know full well that such a category jump would be a very big step for a club and that many factors come into play.

Your team is almost achieving a miracle this year - or is that the wrong word for your team's performance? We have a strong team and the right team spirit. My goal was to finish in the top five, but I never expected that we would be able to compete for promotion. I have a great collective, there's nothing wrong with that.

If you look at the performances of certain teams in the second half of the season, primarily Ahrntal and Salurn, what do you think is more important in order to play a key role in the top league: quality or good preparation in the winter break? We certainly worked well. But when I look at the other teams, the analysis is quick. Salurn collected ten points in the second half of the season, but is the only team that has five or six players born in 1994. From this point of view, it is almost a miracle. Ahrntal had problems preparing for the winter break due to the bad weather. That's all.

What will you say to your players over the next two weeks? The first thing I expect is a statement from the club, which has to clarify whether it wants to be promoted or not. But that will definitely happen. When I think about next season in Serie D, where a lot of former Lega Pro clubs will be playing, I think that we don't have the prerequisites to play semi-professional football. But if our club demands it, then we will give everything to achieve promotion. In any case, the game calendar plays into our hands.

Will you take a small radio to the bench on Sunday?

First and foremost, I look at my team's performance. But we will also keep an eye on the other places. That's why a small radio is a must on Sunday.
