Italy is heading to the Nations League final tournament

Italy were not the better team in Budapest, but they were the more efficient team. The home side, who were formed into a top team by Italian Marco Rossi, would have needed a draw to win Group A. After a 2-0 win, Italy is the group winner.

Giacomo Raspadori (27th) and Federico Dimarco (52nd) scored the goals for Italy. The Squadra Azzurra had to thank goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma several times for the Hungarians not scoring a goal. A double save against Dominik Szoboszlai and Adam Szalai (the captain played his last international match) prevented the score from being equalized at 1-1 (51'). In return, Dimarco made it 2-0 after a wonderful combination via Bryan Cristante. Thanks to the 2-0 win in Budapest, Italy will travel to the Netherlands in June 2023, where the final tournament will take place. In addition to the Azzurri, the Netherlands, Croatia and Portugal or Spain are qualified. Which of the two teams will be there will be decided in a direct duel on Tuesday evening. For the second time in a row, Italy has made it into the final tournament of the best four Nations League teams. A victory in the Puskas Arena in Budapest was necessary for this. This also happened on Monday evening.
