FCS starts the season with a cup game

As part of the qualifying round of the national Italian Cup, Coach Javorcic's team will be visiting last year's Serie C champions Perugia. The match at the Stadio “Renato” Curi will take place on Sunday, August 8th at 19 p.m. Fans in possession of the “Green Pass” are allowed to attend the game. The tournament organized by Lega Serie A has undergone a reform in recent months, according to which only 4 third division teams receive a cup ticket. These are the 4 best-placed non-promoters from last year's Serie C, ie Catanzaro, Avellino, Padua and FC Südtirol. They are fighting with last year's third division champions for a place in the main field, which includes the 20 Serie A and the remaining 16 Serie B teams. The winner of the pairing will be determined in a single match: in the event of a draw after 90 minutes, the match will go into extra time and possibly a penalty shootout. The winner of the Perugia-FCS duel will face first division team Genoa in the “Marassi”. The best 8 from last year's Serie A will take part in the second round of the cup. For captain Hannes Fink & Co. there will be a reunion with last year's Serie C group winners on Sunday. However, Perugia will no longer be coached by champion maker Fabio Caserta, but by former Reggiana coach Massimiliano Alvini. This is a very special game, especially for the South Tyroleans' last newcomer, Marco Moscati. The 28-year-old midfielder was under contract with Perugia three times and won as many championships with the “Greif”. FCS competitive debut for Javorcic For coach Ivan Javorcic, this is the first competitive game with FC Südtirol, which also serves as preparation for the upcoming Serie C championship.
