At the last second: Inter wins their first title of the season

Inter won the Italian Super Cup against arch-rivals and record winners Juventus 2-1 in extra time. This is the 6th triumph for the Milanese in the Supercoppa Italiana. The Nerazzurri's victory was ultimately deserved. However, the decisive goal in the San Siro Stadium only came in the 120th minute from substitute Alexis Sanchez. For Inter coach Simone Inzaghi it was the third Supercup triumph and the first with his new team.

Although Inter was clearly the dominant team in the first half, Juventus took the lead in the 25th minute. After a Morata cross, Weston McKennie headed in the middle to make it 1-0. But just 10 minutes later, Inter had the right answer ready. After a foul by Mattia De Sciglio on Edin Dzeko, the referee pointed to the spot. Lautaro Martinez safely converted the penalty to make it 1-1.

As the game progressed, both teams neutralized each other. Although Inter had a more mature playing system overall, Juventus didn't allow much more. Juventus wanted to substitute European champion Leonardo Bonucci for the penalty shootout. But that didn't happen anymore. Alexis Sanchez scored the much celebrated 2-1 for Inter after a mistake by Alex Sandro. The added time of extra time had already begun. Afterwards the cheering had no limits. On Wednesday evening the Supercoppa Italiana was played between champions Inter and cup winners Juventus. Inter had the better end. The decision was made at the very last second of extra time.
