Nervous thriller: Inter wins the Coppa Italia

Title defense successful: Inter triumphed in the final of the Italian Cup on Wednesday evening and repeated their success from the previous year.

Last year, Inter won the Coppa Italia with a 4-2 extra-time win against Juventus. This time the Milanese didn't have to go into extra time - but the 2-1 triumph against Fiorentina was also really exciting. Things went haywire at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, especially in the last few minutes, but the “Viola” failed to equalize despite good chances.

Consequently, the Inter triumph was certain. The match didn't start as desired for the favorite. Nicolas Gonzalez gave outsiders Fiorentina the lead after just three minutes. But then came the big appearance of Inter's storm star Lautaro Martinez. After a fine Brozovic pass, the Argentine first hammered the ball over the line to make it 1-1 (29th), then after a Barella cross he was one step faster than his opponent (37th).

For Inter it was the ninth Italian Cup victory in history. The leader in this ranking is Juventus with 14 titles. Another, much more important final still awaits the Nerazzurri: Inter will fight for the most important club trophy in European football in the final of the Champions League on June 10th. Fiorentina is also in a final: the showdown in the Conference League against West Ham will take place on June 7th.

Coppa Italia, final

Inter – Fiorentina 2-1
0:1 Gonzalez (3rd), 1:1 Martinez (29th), 2:1 Martinez (37th)
