A fantastic FCS year comes to a bitter end

Promotion to Serie B, completion of the new football temple in Bolzano, the Drususstadion, a series of 12 unbeaten games in Italy's second highest league and numerous games in which the "small" FC Südtirol tripped up the big names in Italian football. In short: The year 2022 was fantastic for the only professional club in South Tyrol. Only the end is bitter: against Modena, the White Reds showed their weakest performance under Pierpaolo Bisoli and deservedly lost 0-2.

4336 spectators made a pilgrimage to the Drusus Stadium on St. Stephen's Day. Most of them were disappointed: the FCS had a bad day and didn't find their way into the game for 90 minutes, which was also due to an unusually high number of bad passes and ball losses. Even a triple substitution by coach Bisoli at halftime didn't turn things around: Nothing worked offensively, and Andrea Masiello & Co. appeared unusually shaky defensively. Modena, which is coached by former FCS coach Attilio Tesser, was more relaxed, more cynical and biting that day - much to the delight of the hundreds of fans who had traveled with them.

In the end, FC Südtirol suffered a deserved 0-2 defeat and left the field as losers for the second time under Pierpaolo Bisoli. It was also the first defeat at the Drususstadion since August 21st. This also shows how fantastic the year was for FC Südtirol. The defeat against Modena cannot change that. The highlights Dance & goal Nothing happens in the Drusus Stadium for 22 minutes, then the bell rings. The 21-year-old Romeo Giovannini, the most striking player of the first half, dances past Fabian Tait and his finish becomes an template for Luca Magnino, who just needs to push in. Defiant reaction The goal wakes up the FCS, who now turn on the turbo for a good ten minutes. Highlight: Simone Mazzocchi's double chance just a few seconds after the 0-1, which Riccardo Gagno thwarted. Otherwise, the FCS game is characterized by many errors. Three changes! Coach Pierpaolo Bisoli reacts to the weak performance: He changes three times at halftime. Capone, Odogwu and Casiraghi come for Mazzocchi, Belardinelli and Marconi. Nothing goes FC Südtirol simply can't get going, they lack brilliant ideas, precision and bite. Modena does better and scores in the final phase with Armellino after a corner to make it 2-0 (81st). Serie B is now taking a three-week break. FC Südtirol continues on January 15th with the home game against Brescia. Then coach Bisoli meets his son Dimitri, who is captain of the traditional club.
